School Profile

Background

The school  started as a Home Economics Training College, for girls to learn Home Economics in 1950’s.

It was officially opened on 24 November 1978 by the M.P and Minister of Education. The headmistress at this time was Miss Fleming from Northern Ireland. She took over as Head of the school in January 1977.

In 2010, the school was privatised by its proprietor, the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian of the Synod of Livingstonia.

Location

Ekwendeni Girls Secondary School is situated at the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian – Synod of Livingstonia Mission premises at Ekwendeni. The school is found along Mzuzu – Karonga M1 road in the northern part of Malawi in Mzimba district. The school is about 21kilometres from Mzuzu City.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The school has both male and female teaching and support staff members.  It is a double stream school. There are 8 classes in total   and the student population is currently 384.  The school has 9 hostels, kitchen and dining and entertainment hall, 8 classrooms, library, computer laboratory and 4 other labs. 

The school aims to give holistic education and achieve academic excellence wherever possible.  Subjects offered include English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Home Economics, Geography, History, French, Social Studies, Computing and Bible Knowledge.
